  1. Does anyone use VLC player to capture from a VCR analogue source?. I was aware that you can capture from a capture device but all I was getting until today was a blurry low res image, that's because I realise that you had to manually type in the frame size. Capture seems good even for my poorly worn tapes, however, the outputted file seems very large even for a raw lossless capture (1.42gb for a 1 min 48 capture. Is there a way of lowering the file size in capture, maybe using a codec?. I don't think even Virtualdub produces files that large. I know some will say that VLC is not an ideal program but it is the only program that seems to work with my capture device.

I saw in another post that your capture device is EasyCap.
Perhaps you should install the software that comes with it instead of VLC

Actually it's a Climax Digital, but I think they are the same as Easycap. I know it's not a very good capture device.

  4. Select the container, video, and audio codecs. See this for an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L--YA-B_D5Q

I watch the video but couldn't understand whether it was encoding the video after the recording or during. It says it creates two files?

Yeah I think I know what to do now, thanks. VLC seems like a good way of capturing.
