Downloading audio from Spotify

I don't like Spotify and their DRM, but I do like their music.
My family already has a subscription, so I thought I'd take the chance to download some fresh music.
It doesn't need to be the highest 320 kbps quality from the application, so the 256 kbps from the web client caught my eye and seemed easy enough to download.
I had really hoped to download directly, because recording losslessly creates quite larges files and re-encoding creates quite dogshit quality audio in my experience.
Downloading the audio file itself appeared to be quite easy, however I did have some difficulties getting the PSSH, because there is no MPD.
When I took a closer look at the license request, I saw that it's just a generic url (https://gew4-spclient.spotify.com/widevine-license/v1/audio/license) with a bunch of request headers and tokens.

Can someone who has experience downloading audio from Spotify point me in the right direction for obtaining the PSSH?

I used to download music all the time, but when Spotify came out I just started recording it. At first I would play an album and record it, commercials and all, then use Nero Wave Editor to edit out the commercials. Later I got a premium family account so my kids and I could have uninterrupted music on our phones, so I don't need to do that anymore. I use a program called Total Recorder to make my MP3s now. It cost me $18 when I bought it ten years ago, but it records any sound that plays on your computer. It's well worth it.

Just use https://gitlab.com/team-zotify/zotify. Super easy, highly configurable, and legit downloads the audio instead of recording.
