Most Powerful Video Player for 8k large video files

Hi, I'm currently stuck in a loop of trying out different Video Players trying to find one that will be able to run my very high quality videos (4k/8k Upscales of videos, resulting in files around 50-90GB) I've ruled out VLC very early on as in my experience it doesn't even load most videos at this quality, therefore i'm using SMPlayer and MPC-BE/HC which both work, but with constant stuttering, lag and frame drops (not smooth)

I'm not convinced its my PC as I have a very powerful RTX 3060 with 16gb Ram & i510400F which can run pretty much everything. I've tried to run as administrator and max out as many settings as I can but I've had no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

rtx3060 aren't very power,ful,just mid line,use mpc-hc,i have a 6600 xt and it plays all 4k-8k with no issues and it's similar to the 3060.

Maybe your cpu is to old.

Maybe your video format choice for the upscales are not HW accelerated . Choose a supported format

What does mediainfo(view=>text) say about a typical video ? copy & paste the text back here

You need a M1 or M2 Mac for ProRes HW acceleration. You will not get smooth playback on your hardware

Your card would support HEVC or VP9 8K decoding through NVDEC. See Table 1. Most common media players should already support it, you might have to configure it

You' d have to re-encode it to HEVC or VP9 according to the supported profiles on Table 1

On Windows, if Splash can play it, it is the fastest player I've used. I haven't tried playing 8K though.

The OP took a presumably 4k video, probably from YouTube and upscaled it to a 4min 3gb/s 86gb 8k ProRes 422 and then wonders why it won't play smoothly.

I am also willing to bet that he doesn't even have a 4k monitor much less an 8k one, making this an even bigger waste of time.

videostream is 86.2 GiB which is 88 268,8 MB with a duration of 243 seconds.
So you need a drive which can deliver 363,25 MB/s just for video. aduio only contributes to + 0,01 MB/s

I have also such a file. It is a demo file from THX and has exactly the same problem. Put it on an NVME and it will be fine.

PDR is correct, this has nothing to do with I/O, these Nvidia cards do not support hardware decode of ProRes, especially at 8k:

To play this back smoothly on a PC you will need a beefy cpu, hardware decode of ProRes is Mac only.

If you intend you do work with ProRes, and are on a tight budget, I recommend looking for a used M1 based Mini.

The hardware capabilities will also impact 8K playback performance. Using a media player optimized for 8K and having a modern powerful CPU, GPU, SSD storage and sufficient RAM will provide the best experience with large 8K video files.

The lack of a hardware decoder for ProRes is the source of the problem. Otherwise the OP's video would probably play smoothly.

My laptop has an i5-1155G7 CPU, 8GB RAM, and a 1080p display so it isn't a powerful machine. Generally, 8K HEVC video plays smoothly because the processor's iGPU offers HEVC hardware decoding and I installed Microsoft's HEVC codec. (I mostly use the Windows 11 Movies and TV App to play 8K HEVC videos on my laptop.)

If I tried to play an 8K ProRes video, it would be a different story. A more powerful CPU would definitely be necessary to play an 8K ProRes video smoothly on a Windows 11 computer because there are no hardware decoders for ProRes available on a system like that. However, since ProRes isn't a distribution format, not many people are going to have to worry about playing 8K ProRes videos.
