  1. Basically I'm trying to shrink DVD-9 to DVD-5. 18-20 hours for re-encoding is too long!

What else is out there? What are other options for re-encoding/transcoding?

  2. Pentium 4 2.4GHz might help...

I'm with you Talus, I'm currently looking for an alternative also. Damn it took me 22 hours to reencode Behind Enemy lines. It has to be something else.

  7. I wasn't trying to be too flippant but I stand on my earlier sentiment - DVD-9 movies contain hours of MPEG2. You can't reencode this without major muscle. Mainly CPU but have some RAM & a non-turtle hard disk doesn't hurt.

Probably no little software switch will make it go quickly - think what you are trying to do then what you are doing it with. Heck a few years ago doing MPEG2 on a PC was darn near impossible.
