  1. Hi

Please can someone help with this annoying problem!

I have been successfully burning VCDs now for some time but have just today burned my first SVCD. I followed the instructions on the site for burning using Nero but when I playback on my stand alone dvd player (Schneider 855 - with software upgrade!) I get an intermittant problem with the audio. The picture plays fine, the audio plays too but about every 5-10 seconds the sound cuts out just for a fraction of a second then comes back on again - exactly in synch with the video. I dont get this problem with any VCDs I have burned, this is the first time. I can play back the Mpeg on my PC with no audio problems at all. Am I missing a codec in Nero? (Am using version 5.5.2.3 - the new version doesnt work properly on my system so thats why still using old version!) The file was originally a BIN/CUE file which I converted to MPeg using VCDGear.

    Any pointers gratefully appreciated! :P

    Thank!

  2. Probably need some more info on your burning steps but it seems that the problem may be related to how your svcd player handles bitrate processing. Your vcd's may have all been constant bit rate but if your svcd was now encoded using vbr then that could possibly be why. You should try to experiment by creating a short svcd movie using a constant bitrate. You should probably also pack/interleave your video and audio at least every 15 frames or better and see if that works.

Don't forget to post if this works.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply but Im afraid you lost me after "...bitrate processing"

Im afraid that I dont manually adjust any of the settings when I burn my films, here is exactly what I did for this SVCD:

    1. load Bin/Cue files into VCD Gear to convert to Mpeg
    2. Open new SVCD in Nero, drag in Mpeg
    3. Burn

And I thought I was getting good at this

How do I alter the bitrate? How do I pack/interleave the video and audio?

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but perhaps by total fluke Ive never had to do this before!

    Thanks !

  4. You could try the samples at :

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/svcd.htm

and see if they work. If they do, perhaps the BIN/CUE you are having problems with now is not encoded properly.

  5. Thanks for that.

Here is a bit of additional info - I just installed PowerDVD on my PC (just rebuilt it yesterday so hadnt had a chance to put it on yet!) and played my SVCD through that, it plays perfectly! So the disk itself plays fine on the PC through Power DVD but not on my standalone DVD player - stupid question really, possibly a problem with my stand alone player? (sorry for the ignorance, first time with SVCDs!! )

    Thanks for tolerating my ignorance!!
