  1. I am trying to make a list of up to date tools for video stabilization paid or free to later compare them and find one that is works best for my needs.

So far i use Deshaker for VirtualDub, however its development stopped 9 years ago so probably there are more efficient tools out there?

I know of Mercalli v6, there's also stabilization in Adobe Premiere and Davinci Resolve, any other up to date tools out there, freeware or paid that provide decent stabilization?

In my experience, the following tools have been quite effective:

    Adobe After Effects
    Final Cut Pro X
    ProDAD Mercalli
    HitFilm Express

    It's worth looking at
    Blender
    Kdenlive
    Shotcut
    FFMPEG
Both Kdenlive and Shotcut stabilisers are frontends for FFMPEG

Mercalli puts everything mentioned above to shame.

That's been my experience for the better part of two decades -- but Resolve seems to be doing a better job on my material these days. Obviously YMMV.

After Effects can do some quality tracking too, but it's rare to be better.

But Avisynth tends to beat After Effect, so somewhat moot.

Mercalli is one of those programs that I'm glad I bought. I'm several versions back now, but see no reason to upgrade.

I still use Deshaker with VirtualDub. So far I have not found anything better and with such configuration possibilities.

  9. you don't say if they are your own videos or not? If your own then I would first look at the type of camera/camcorder support your using. if it is shuddering then your settings are wrong. It would help if you described the problems first before looking for a solution on here

Let's do some tests. Attached is the original file and after using Deshaker.

If there are more, I will combine them into 1 comparison clip.

For such basic footage, fast bicycle ride very shaky video's Deshaker could do well because so much dynamic's is going on, picture moves so fast you have no time to see the imperfections.

However when need to stabilize more cinematic slow pace footage Deshaker has its limitations, mainly fact that it is use two dimensional alignment, there is however Avisynth Deshaker3D plugin that provides better alignment, however also alpha version that never seen any development.

I did only first half because my computer is slow.

Proper filming is a key, use higher shutter speed and fix camera on your head rather than frame of your bicycle.

This is Deshaker settings i used.

Mercalli 6 One-click using the defaults (I am very inexperienced with Mercalli, which has a bunch of options, so I'm sure you could get a better job).

Mercalii is only available for Vegas Pro X? The plugin will not work with Vegas?

@RGR, it appears so. "Video Pro X" is actually "Magix Video Pro X" and "Video Deluxe" (German name) is Magix Movie Studio. Having a look at this from the Prodad website, it doesn't look like Vegas has a Mercalli plugin.

But the full name is MAGIX Vegas (Pro etc.). I'll have to ask or check.
