  1. I have just joined this forum due to my hard drive being wiped!!

I have lost over 200 DVD's stored on my hard drive that are in VOB format, i have used wondershare recoverit.

    I have found vob files.

They are named like this $R1VHVC1.vob , they show as 1gb which is 30min of video on a dvd, but they will not play on any media device VLC etc.

I can convert them with vob2mpg3.0, they seem to convert watching the conversion bar and it says conversion complete, so there is something there for it to convert.

When i try to play converted file, still nothing works.

Can anyone help its been 1 week, i tried all the help off google websites, the so called easy ways to repair vobs, nothing works for me.

    So, if anyone can help

    Please reply

    Thanks.

  2. First of all: Dont write to the Harddisk.
Open a recovered vob in a hex editor and post a screenshot from what's displayed here.

  3. Thanks very much for reply

I don't know anything about fixing vobs.

Anyway, i tried a good vob into the HEX program to see what happens i had loads of information.

When i tried a recovered vob, nothing, no information just all zero's!!

    Hope you can help.

  4. The first four bytes of a VOB file are always 00 00 01 BA. Those all-zero files are essentially empty. You are probably out of luck. A better file recovery program might do better. But since you've been writing to the drive you may have further messed it up.

Did you purchase this s/w ?

If you merely downloaded and installed it could work in a 'demo' mode and simply show you files that are 'recoverable' but not actually recover anything and just go through the motions.

But there are certain 'rules' with data recovery.

    1. Do not install ANYTHING on to a HDD that you want to recover from.

    2. Do not recover ANYTHING on to the same HDD that you want to recover from.

  11. Sorry for delay in reply. I had a program that removes duplicate files, i have thousands of photo's and a lot of doublers so i thought i was just removing photo's but i must have clicked the wrong thing and bang i noticed there was a lot of stuff missing on the drive, so i deleted vob's as well, stupid of me, i recorded pop music off TV for 20 yrs 1981 to 2001 and i am transferring them to hard drive, i have thrown away these videotapes.
Now i have deleted around 200 tapes 600 hrs of music material, and weeks of work. completely gutted, just stupid of me, not knowing the program well and making a big mistake.
On top of that my ebay as been hacked on Saturday, plus my main email address.
Some low life took money out of my ebay. bombarded my email with hundreds of emails. had a guts full of computers at the moment. Ebay hard to contact and its weekend.
