Hello all, I'm doing some Video 8 tapes, using my D8 camera to capture.

Some are exhibiting a nasty horizontal line pattern. It's coming through on a LAGS capture as well as DV.

I would be grateful if anyone could provide some info on what I'm up against; a dud tape or potential camcorder incompatibility? I don't have ready access to another camcorder at this stage.

    Sample attached.

Thanks Aedipuss, I'll have a poke around in the camera. Bit harder to get to than a VHS head!

    Hi,

Horizontal lines in your video capture could be due to a number of issues, and it may be a bit difficult to pinpoint the exact cause without more information.

Too big for them IMO, Master.

As it turns out, I think they were on the tape. I've tried with another camcorder (after I cleaned it's heads with a Sony tape cleaner, 10 sec max, LS!), and they are still there. Also, they are more prevalent towards the end of this batch of tapes, which leads me to surmise that the heads were getting dirtier as time went on.
