Hypermicro's cheap DVD-RW discs are DVD-incompatible?

I bought very cheap DVD-RW discs $2.39/disc (in a 10-disc pack) at www.hypermicro.com. They work perfectly in the Pioneer DVR-104 drive but not in my HP Pavilon n5125 notebook's DVD-ROM drive.
Do you have any experience with the DVD-compatibility of these "hypercheap" generic DVD-RW discs?

Have you played any other brand discs on your laptop?
My Tosheba won't play ANY DVD-R/RW discs.

leebo is right. Check and make sure that your drive can play branded dvd-rw's. I bought generic dvd-r's from hypermicro and they play fine on my Affree dvd-rom drive but the verbatim dvd-rw I bought from hypermico does not. Its the drive's fault not the media. [/b]

Hypermicro's DVD-R and DVD-RW do have some problem. They are a little bit heavier...and my experience is that, the DVD-R can be played on my DVD-ROM drive of my desktop, but not playable on my notebook's DVD-ROM, and not playable by my Sony DVD-player.

I haven't tried the DVD-RW yet. Will post results after I tried.

In the meantime I found that it does not matter what DVD-RW media I was using. I tried Pioneer ($17/disc), Sony DVD-RW ($13/disc) and hypermicro generic ($2.4/disk) discs and none of them worked with any of the notebook DVD-ROMs I tested.
LanceSteel is right "Its the drive's fault not the media.".
However, all notebook slim DVD-ROM worked with DVD-R discs.

Its just like CD-R and CD-RW was back in the day... if its new enough it can read it unless its a cheapo drive ... in time everyone will forget all these bumps in the road and everything will be good...

LanceSteel is right "Its the drive's fault not the media.".
However, I'd say that DVD-RW has been advertised as a DVD-compatible media but that's simply not true, DVD-RW is compatible only with devices that has the DVD-RW logo.
I think the only really DVD-compatible writable media is DVD-R.

Some machines will read DVD-RW fine regardless if DVD-RW support is listed or not. But if you want to ensure maximal compatibility, use your drive to burn DVD-R instead on GOOD media.
