  1. Hello,
My Roxio analog capture card usually works decent, but for some reason it puts color banding on this "Yellow Submarine" tape, causing the colors to be distorted. The picture also occasionally stretches at the top side. None of these issues occur when I play it through my TV. Is the ROXIO 'allergic' to the type of composite cables I'm using?

  2. The two fields have different colors:

On the left is the chroma from the even field, the middle is the odd field, the right is a blend. I don't know which is correct.

Here is a reference showing what it should look like:

  4. How do you know that reference image is correct?

What you have looks like Hanover bars in a PAL video. With PAL video the chroma of the two fields should be blended together to get the correct final color (as in my rightmost image above). But your sample images are NTSC height -- so they shouldn't have Hanover bars. Maybe the VCR has a worn/dirty head?

I've recently cleaned the heads, and this problem does not happen when I connect it to my TV, so I'm lead to believe the card has faulty signal. None of these issues with color banding and distorted image happen when I capture from my Wii.

  6. More likely it's the capture device not handling VCR output particularly well (99+% of capture cards don't) - options are to use dvd-recorder or other device for stabilizing, SVHS deck with TBC or other options that have been discussed a zillion times here.
