  1. Sorry if these are stupid questions, I'm quite new to this.

Looking to start digitising my own Digital 8 tapes rather than having someone else do it. Is there a recommended capture card/software thats widely used by people on here? Also digital 8 seems to be a newer format so is there a way to digitise it without a capture card?

Would appreciate links to any videos or resources detailing the digitisation process that you'd recommend.

    Thanks!

  2. Digital 8 is electronically identical to DV. You need a firewire cable and a firewire card. Use WinDV to capture.

  3. I am on Mac so would not be able to use WinDV unfortunately. Is it possible to use this cable:

    alongside a capture software?

Also what about Firewire>Thunderbolt>USB-C cables and a capture software?

Essentially I'm asking is it possible to do without a firewire card as i'm not sure how I would use one of those with a Macbook?

    Thank you!

It would have helped had you stated you are a Mac user since you posted in a PC forum. Compounded by you not stating the model of Mac you have or the camcorder.

Mac 'DV' transfer has been discussed many times but the simplest is to look on Youtube as there are many videos which show what cable(s) you need and the software you need. Such as
