  1. I've stuck with DVD buying or renting (Netflix) due to DVDs just looking better than streaming. However, Netflix DVD is dying in September, and it had a lot of titles I can't find on streaming without pay-per-view or subscription elsewhere, so I'm worried it'll be hard to find decent-looking titles.

What's the alternative now? Just Redbox? It seems there's no other DVD (sharing?) service (though I'm tempted to start my own). I'm honestly terrified Netflix and others will just throw away good DVDs... the horror. I'm sure there's millions of people that would be OK making some bucks doing P2P sharing using pre-made fitted envelopes. 'tis a thought...

Have you found streaming to be as good an experience as DVD? I've always felt it was inferior to DVD, and I'm not sure I care enough about Blu-ray to jump to it.

I like quality as intended by the studio or artist. Not over-compressed washed-out streams, if I can avoid it. Otherwise, I guess I need to know the best recommendations.

Most libraries have just dvds,no blu-rays so they are way behind in times for media.

  6. UHD isn't necessarily an indicator of quality, it's just a resolution.

The same resolution can have different qualities, depending on the video compression.

So streaming in UHD can still look worse than watching a video straight from the DVD disc if the compression has better-looking quality than the compression from streaming UHD.

DVD's are no match in quality to that of streaming sites.
In the USA there are so many streaming options that are not available in other countries and you get more recent titles for the same subscription payment.
Not sure about how good the satellite option these days in the USA. In Europe they are a major source for watching movies and TV shows and sports in addition to streaming. Perhaps you can consider this option also.

I stopped buying DVD's 15 years ago. After watching them once they just sit on the shelves doing nothing as there are so many new titles available and I wouldn't have the time to watch them again.

  8. I see these are replies to an old thread, but RedBox is gone. Folded up, at least in the USA.
Also, the library in my area does have DVD's and BluRay's to borrow, so that is a place to check.
