Hi gurus, staxrip user here.
I notice a green tint (don't really know how to call the phenomenon) when I encode to standard definition with 10bit depth (x264).
SD 8bit, HD 8bit and HD 10bit encodes are quite matching each others on colorimetry.
That looks weird to me, is it fine to you?
I tried to encode several different series and compare with known good sd 10bit encodes (using same sources),
and it's true that those also have that kind of tint, so I don't know.
Can this be a limitation of x264?

All have the expected negligible shifts - ie. they are all basically the same within tolerance
What is your playback configuration? How are you watching them ? Try a different player like MPCHC, MPV
You can also flag the colorimetry to provide hints to help the player/device to play it properly. Those samples are unflagged -
MPC-HC is my only player for years, I keep it up to date thanks to clsid2
I tried to feed those samples in MPV and Potplayer, sames results.
I can also notice it no matter the monitor/tv I watch on.
Flagging primaries, matrix and transfert didn't helped neither.
Well, I guess I'm just too sensitive to even slight shifts x) -
Here is a blind test.
The screenshot was taken with direct control over YUV to RGB conversion (601 matrix for SD, 709 for HD) . The HD versions were resized after the RGB conversion to match the SD versions
If your playback chain is setup correctly, this is what the 4 samples should look like
A vectorscope trace is attached to each
Which one is "shifted" with the "green tint" ? -
I would say B? This is so weird actually xpp
Those are screenshots from MPC-HC :

Nope.
So you thought there is a "green tint" in "b" ?
a000000.png corresponds to sample04-sd-10bit.mkv . They were in reverse order
But there is a mild shift in your screenshot for sample04 compare to 03. Attached are your SD samples 03,04 with RGB histogram

My mpchc screenshots do not exhibit the shift .

So underlying videos are ok. Something is probably misconfigured on your setup for playback . What decoder ? HW/SW decoding ? What renderer? -
I am already relieved that this is just a playback issue... I actually noticed this months ago... x)
So, I am using LAV with hardware decoding :

Renderer is EVR (custom presenter) -
Oh my...

The worst part is I used to use it back in time until I decided to not use filters and stuffs at playback level...
You are my hero I was getting so mad about it... :'D
