Sometimes I download videos from YouTube to watch on my PC with VLC or on TV with Kodi. I assume the included subs are automatically generated by YT which have quite little errors on English audio, apparently speech to text is working fine.
However, when I watch the subs, one of the two lines often is displayed on the screen longer than it should be. So, instead of turning off the one line that's already been spoken, it remains visible as the lower line while the upper line gets new text. This can be very hard to follow as you can see with attachment. Playback with other tools looks slighty different but is still hard to read.
Is there any way to fix this automatically? TIA!

You can try Subtitle Edit:
1) Tools - Adjust durations: Fixed, 100ms
2) Tools - Adjust durations: Auto-calc
3) Tools - Merge short lines: About max 78 chars in one paragraph
Will need some manual work, like better split + punctuation...
