I've been using XMedia Recode for easily 5 or 6 years now to convert MP4 -> Webm, and right now I'm on a fresh Windows 10 installation, with a fresh install of the latest XMedia Recode, and for some reason it's shrinking my videos way down to postage-stamp sizes, with seemingly no way to make it NOT do that.
The source video is 1920x1080, and for some reason, Xmedia Recode wants to output it as...176x144.
Even if I go to Filters/Preview and manually change the width/height, it does nothing and refuses to go any higher than 176x144.
What exactly is going wrong here? I'm confused as all hell since every time I've used XMedia Recode in the past, it worked just fine. No matter what I do, the program just utterly refuses to output anything higher than 176x144.

All I could think to do is try another version of the program from a clean install. Hope that works.

Yeah, that was one of the first things I tried. I tried using the Portable x64 version, and then the Portable x32 version, both of them did the same thing.

Oh okay apparently you don't use "Custom" anymore, but instead have to choose HTML5 and then select the resolution from the drop-down list.
-
That's interesting, you may have found a bug in the program or something about your source file.
Have you tried it with any other sources?
It behaves OK for me, you can see after I hit that 1920x800 box, the "resolution" info at the bottom shows the filter is now
de-selected (the line through the eye) -

The settings are in a file called xmediarecode.json, close the program and rename the file to xmediarecode.old
The file may be in appdata/roaming/xmediarecode/
or in the portable folder if you used that. -

Not that I can see, no. This is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.
Already did, multiple times. The one I'm running right now I just downloaded and it's running out of its own folder on the desktop.
I'm just as stumped as you are. Been using this program for at least 5 or 6 years now, and now all of a sudden it's glitching out like this even on fresh installs. -

Yeah, I don't see anything like that in Event Viewer, even scrolling down a good bit through System and Application.

I add the same issue when upgrading. The issue appears to be the Profile setting. Change it to something higher (or unrestricted, depending on your needs).

This 176x144 is a legit size enforced by some formats.
ie. the "profile" or "format" chosen on the xmedia recode format tab.
Are you really encoding xvid/divx mpeg-4 visual?
What did you have for format/profile?
What did you have for codec on the video tab ?Last edited by davexnet; 4th Apr 2023 at 13:43.

Thanks for the extra info. I can recreate it now, also happens with an older version.
I notice if you momentarily select vp9 in the codec, the resolution is as it should be;
change back to vp8 and it holds.
This must be a bug in the code, just one of many.
I might see if I can contact the author
