    Hello,

I've been converting all my videos to mkv and am now tagging them. Unfortunately, the tagger is using 'Artist' instead of 'Actor' in the tags.
Mkvpropedit and mkvextract seem like possible tools but the "--edit" mystifies me. I've tried to locate examples of editing/removing the 'Artist' tag or copying the content to an 'Actor' tag, but without success. The examples can delete the 'Title' tag but not the 'Artist' tag.
    Any ideas?

    Thank you,

  2. Mp3tag can tag MKVs so it'd be worth a try.
If you haven't used it before you can add fields to the tag panel on the left, and changes there will modify the fields in any selected files if you right click on a file and select "save tags" (or use the File menu), so you can batch convert that way. If you can't find a populated field right click on the file or files and check "extended tags". You can copy from one field to another or copy and paste whole tags.

I can't see an official "Actor" tag for MKVs, but there shouldn't be anything stopping you from adding one. If a tagging program won't write the tag though, it may not read it either if it's non-standard.

Anyway.... I tested it out and so far so good.

Edit: foobar2000 has no problem reading the Actor field I created with Mp3tag, so it's working correctly. I was wrong about Actor not being an official Matroska tag. It's listed under Entities.

    Hello,

Thanks, I'll give it a look. However, Matroska does support the 'Actor' tag, search the page for 'Actor':

    "Entities
    Tag NameType Description
ACTOR UTF-8 An actor or actress playing a role in this movie. This is the person’s real name, not the character’s name the person is playing."

Yes, I edited my post when I realised my mistake but I assume that was after you read it.
