  1. I had heard at one time that WMV and/or AVI files could potentially contain unwanted streams other than video, audio, and subtitles, such as embedded commands to access the internet, open local files, etc. Maybe other audio/video containers as well? How can I configure MPC-BE and MPC-HC to block such activity?

    Options ==> External Filters,
    then select AND block these:

    Internal Script Command Renderer
    WM ASF Reader

    Also, and just in case...

    Line 21 decoder
    Line 21 decoder 2
    MPEG-2 Demultiplexer
    MPEG-2 Splitter
