Clearclick video converter 2.0 produces an empty mp4 file

I bought a clearclick converter a couple weeks ago and have beeen using it to convert vhs tapes to mp4 through an external usb drive. Its been working fine until last night it produced a 0kb mp4 file (and a .snap folder).

I tried it today and same results. The mp4 file reads 20230304_090815B.mp4 says date modified 3/4/2023 9:08 am, and size is 0 KB. The .snap folder produced says date modified 3/2/2023 1:00pm and is empty.

I dont know how the .snap folder could be produced a day earlier than the mp4 file, but I dont know what a .snap folder is anyway.

Any ideas how to fix this?

update I formatted the external drive and it worked after that
