usb devices are NOT for mini-DV.

Assuming you have a PC and not a laptop (not clear from your system specs) you require an add-in IEEE1394 card and a firewire connection from your camcorder to the PC, transfering with eith WinDV or SCLive.

From there you can create DVDs.

Do some reading on the forum for more info.

  3. Hello! Yes, I had searched some threads about, but I didnt got time to see through.
I use desktop and I didnt knew the fact that usb-capture cant suit for mini-DV. I have an Sony
DCR that takes only mini tapes.
I thought that also OBStudio could do that, after the input of camera, can capture from screen.
    Thanks anyway.

miniDV should not have anything to do with USB, OBS, DVD. Transfer to PC as suggested above, you will get DV SD files, Preferably watch them the way they are, if size is too big you can de-interlace and convert to h.264, not DVD.

  5. Unfortunatelly, I dont have extra PCI slot for firewire IEEE1394 card. I've searched for some cheap-good quality cards on Amazon, gonna buy one

Especially if using S-Video, analogue capture from a DV camcorder isn't as shocking as you lot are making out. Here's a comparison capture.

For the analogue, I used S-video from my PAL D8 camcorder to a GV-USB2 capture dongle.

Not bad, @Alwyn! Very early DV camcorders did not even have Firewire output. Also, early camcorders may not have fitting Firewire drivers - one would expect Firewire to be plug and play, but all my DV/HDV camcorders require a dedicated driver. One of my pre-2000 DV camcorder only had Windows98/ME driver, and I think NT 4.0. So, starting with WinXP people started asking questions, but the manufacturer simply ignored them.

Have you checked your motherboard? Maybe it already has a pin header for firewire.

  9. It's just funny they come on and ask for "best and cheapest", then ignore everyone and buy an adapter that will probably cause more grief.

My PC came with an MSI mini-ITX mobo, that was manufactured in 2015. So was already new-gen to have an firewire port (has only one PCI express for GPU). I've seen many products that was good-priced, but I cant buy it just like that. Need more searching online. The camera is an (PAL) Sony DCR-TRV330 that uses DV tapes. If I dont store them digital in my pc, maybe gonna lost them, in spacetime

Well it would have helped had you quoted your camcorder model in the first place.

You do NOT have a mini-DV camera. You have a digital8 camera (the d8 recording is DV but on a different cassette). That being said, firewire, if the camera has the Sony i-link connector, would give you the best quality. But you do have the alternative of using a a/v cable or a s-video cable (better for the video and a/v for the audio) in to a usb capture device. But, again as stated, forget about OBS there is plenty of quite capable, and free, capture softwares available.

My bad. Yes from quick google search, I've seen that this type of vcr can use plenty of cassete types, but yes its actually d8 (on mine). Thanks for your time and help.

Do you have a thunderbolt (TB) connector or a USB-C with TB capability? If not try a Pinnacle device such as 500-USB, these can transfer the DV stream over USB, But to work you will need the manufacturer's driver to fool the computer into thinking it's connecting via firewire, The latest drivers are dated back to April 12, 2012 for Windows7, However people had luck (including myself) getting the driver to work under Wind 10. 2 more caveats, Those devices may not work well with USB 3 ports, so you may need a USB 2.0 port, And the device streams DV over USB with USB 2.0 speed so expect possible occasional drop outs.

It will be MUCH better to find someone to transfer your raw miniDV tapes to SDD/HDD via FireWire. 15GB per tape.
