I just reinstalled the current Subtitle Edit and it asks to install ffmpeg. The usual problem on my Windows 7 occurs where it hangs.
Ok for that, my good install on another PC shows ffmpeg at:
c:\users\my user name\appdata\roaming\subtitle edit\ffmpeg.
So if I unpack a new zip of ffmpeg to that location, does it solve the problem in subtitle Edit?
I ask this because I don't recall it being an issue in earlier editions of SE. The followup question is
which old version of SE installs ffmpeg?

This sounds a bit unclear. SE hanging is "the usual problem" on your Win7 pc? If so, do you know under what circumstances?
As a quick & dirty approach, you can try SE portable version and see if problems persist.
As for ffmpeg, you can put it anywhere. Just make sure SE has the correct path set. -
Thanks for your reply to one of my many questions.
Yes, my question was on the install path.
From recent experiences in finding the appdata roaming path for SE on Win7 and seeing that path on an install
that is 'stable' for it, I'm pretty sure I can point it correctly. I have to see the error again to find out.
Problem is, I use a number of HDs to back up and change things around.
I will look at adding the portable install which I have not done.
