Dont know if this is in the right section, anyway,

Hi guys put some movies onto an exfat formatted sd card. The movies were originally created using decrypter, and dvd shrink reduced to 4.35 gb. The Tab can see the VOB files but i get error message "cant play/open these files). any easy solution to get the files working. cheers
BTW, im posting as im not sure if decrypter and shrink have interfered with processing these files.

Yes. Stop messing with VOB files.
Convert the entire DVD into one .mkv file with MakeMKV.

Maybe the OP wants to keep the DVD menus and/or extras.

visionman: It sounds as if you may be trying to play the .VOB files directly. That won't (normally) work.

Assuming you've ripped the DVD(s) correctly and have not moved any of the files, you should have a VIDEO_TS folder/directory for each. Try loading that into VLC or your respective DVD-Video software player.

OK, I already had VLC app for android installed on the Tab, didnt work, play. I tried to play the Video_TS file, in VLC, it opened and played the lion growling, (at the start of the film) then stopped playing. Thing is, these film files are the ripped/copies , i do not have the originals. The discs were all playing fine on my computer without issues. MakeMKV looks like the way to go, IF, its a straightforward disc in and is reconverted to playable format. Testing tomorrow!

Not the VIDEO_TS.IFO file; point it at the containing VIDEO_TS folder. Software players like VLC will treat the VIDEO_TS folder (with all of the VOB and IFO within it) as if it were the actual DVD.

Since you are willing to create a single video file for each DVD from the VOB files, you might consider feeding them to Vidcoder/Handbrake and re-encode them to smaller-filesize MKVs. It's what I do when ripping DVDs for my phone. Not to dismiss MakeMKV, but it only remuxes the DVD into a single MKV, the same size as the DVD files you give it - it doesn't re-encode. And having smaller video files always helps if you're trying to fit a lot of them on an external (Micro)SD card. (And if Handbrake can reencode the video to a format easier for your device to play, all the better.)

...of course, the results will be better if you re-encode from the original, unShrinked DVDs.

Hi Ai Haibara, used Handbrake to re encode the discs, the final file size 1.01 GB, on the SD Card, and playing with a good picture on the Tablet, well pleased with the result. Many thanks for the overall info on MKVs and re encoding. I am also going to re encode full discs as well. Thanks for all posts.
