    I want to open up some tapes to clean the mould off them. I have a small screwdriver but is magnetic towards screws and what not. Would putting this anywhere near my tapes like this damage them?

    Yes, But never touch the actual magnetic tape with any object, magnetic or not, even your finger tips. Also make sure you do this in an open and non living space, Spores from mould can fly in the air and be inhaled, Wear gloves and a mask.
