Trying to record from MiniDV to my PC...pulling my hair out

Hi All,

I have a Windows 11 PC and I've just installed a PCI Firewire card which I've connected to my old Panasonic NV-EX1 MiniDV camcorder.

I've tried a few downloads but although they control the camera I cannot see any video previews on my monitor of the footage and I often get errors about not receiving any video. Can someone advise what application I can try so I can report the issues here for someone to help please?

What software are you using?

Two oldies but goodies are WinDV and Scenalyzer Live. https://www.videohelp.com/software/ScenalyzerLive

I've just changed the firewire cable, put the 1394 driver into legacy mode and tried sclive. All appears to be working but I don't know which of these steps helped. I suspect it was putting the legacy 1394 driver that did the trick but can't be sure!

Typically, Windows beyond 8 does not support firewire so you do, indeed, require a legacy driver. Hence that was the required 'fix'
