So I've set up a computer from spare parts to use as a sort-of-HTPC, just for playing back video. It has an i7-6700K in an AsRock Z270 Taichi motherboard. As far as the specs say, the Intel graphics on the CPU say it can do 4K60, but the motherboard will only do 4K60 out of its DP port as its HDMI port I think is only 1.2.

The TV I'm trying to hook it up to only has HDMI inputs, which do support HDMI 2.0. I haven't tried using a DP-to-HDMI cable yet because I have to order one and I wanted to ask if it's even possible first.

Question is, can the signal coming out of the DP port on my mobo play nice in some way with the HDMI input on my TV to get me 4K60 video, e.g. a DP-to-HDMI cable?

EDIT: Will I need one of these bad boys?

Yes, you will need a DisplayPort 1.2 to 4K@60Hz HDMI active adapter. Passive DP to HDMI adapters can only be used with dual-mode DisplayPort connections, which Skylake's Intel UHD 530 graphics can't provide. Unfortunately, HDR10 wasn't supported by Intel iGPUs prior to the release of Intel Kaby Lake processors with Intel UHD 620 graphics or Intel UHD 630 graphics.

Active DP-to-HDMI adapter worked like a charm.

I'm glad to hear that. I have been using an active DP-to-HDMI adapter with HDR support with my Coffee Lake desktop for a few years now, so I was confident that an active DP-to-HDMI adapter was the right choice.
