"Graphics cards built upon the Ada architecture feature new eighth generation NVIDIA Encoders (NVENC) with AV1 encoding, enabling a raft of new possibilities for streamers, broadcasters, and video callers.
It’s 40% more efficient than H.264 and allows users who are streaming at 1080p to increase their stream resolution to 1440p while running at the same bitrate and quality."
Based on early tests of Intel's AV1 hardware encoder and Nvidia's claims here, it seems neither first gen hardware AV1 encoder is all that exciting.
Still, by this time next year, when low end "Ada Lovelace" based cards become available in the sub $150 range, it may be a fun little toy to pick up to play around with.

Yes. I can use ffmpeg to do AV1 HW encoding for Nvidia, AMD and Intel.
An issue I noticed with AMD is that FHD encodes always output 1082 not 1080. UHD is ok. I will test this later again to see if it's been fixed with the latest AMD drivers and the latest ffmpeg build.
Not related to AV1 ... I noticed that with the latest build of ffmpeg my RQM VMAF syntax no longer works, issue with "Models". I see there is an ffmpeg dedicated forum so i'll post there later looking for help with it. Last build where it was ok was 7th-September.
Ok, it's ffmpegX so I'll post my query in the novice section.Last edited by JN-; 28th Nov 2023 at 08:43.

I hope NVIDIA also make progress in quality of motion estimation engine of these new MPEG encoder ASIC generations. So the quality of denoise and deinterlace tools via mvtools AVS plugin hardware accelerated also may be better.
Also new AreaMode of MVs enhancement for MAnalyse requires sort of 10+x more performance of block-based ME engine to keep performance while making better quality with nosied content. I hope the performance in fps of the new NVIDIA ME ASICs also become somehow better over first public versions in GTX1060 cards (Pascal chips). -

Are you feeling ok?
You are responding to something I posted about 19 months ago and my full statement was:

I completely missed it, I do remember Deep Throat, Linda in later years became a huge anti-porn activist.
You know what the funny thing is, this movie in some ways has higher quality than many of the movies and tv shows, adult or main stream, that you see today.
This was shot on film and take a look at this clip on YouTube, there's no nudity or anything like that, but just look how good it looks:

I actually remember back in the day, a friend of mine's father had some adult movies that were distributed on film for showing on a home projector. The packaging was similar to adult move packaging for VCR and DVD but it was physically larger and inside where 2 film reels, an empty one and a full one.
How great would it be to be able to get a modern movie in this format? -
for physical media, I'll stick with DVD/BD/UHD BD, thank you very much.
