For converting an entire .SRT file, for example, from one language to another ? (But the timecode part may not survive this, even if the translation could work ?) I have collected some subs files like that, which just happened to be in the wrong language . . . but which were all that happened to be available.
Time was that Google Translate was just humorously clumsy, but I've seen steady improvements to it, over the years. One might imagine that once technology and AI reaches a certain level, that formerly out-of-reach or amazing such tasks could become commonplace. And that is the promise held out by some sites like the ones above: some free, some with a charge involved.
[I think there may have been some sort of translation engine feature available in a program like Subtitle Edit (?), but the last time I looked into it, I recall being flummoxed by it.]

I often have better luck with Subscene, but that's not the point.
Typical example: An Italian film from several years back that apparently was only shown on Italian tv. All that could be found for it were subtitles in Italian. I have that .SRT file. But I'd like to convert it to an English .SRT. There are a number of examples like this. I'll take a look at the YT video linked by october262.When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

For lulz tested on one of the latest memes:

 Original:
Google:Хватит курить где попало, курите там где еще не попало.
Deepl:Stop smoking anywhere, smoke where you haven't.
I would say that some humor is preserved by Deepl. [non-native opinion]Stop smoking wherever you can, smoke wherever you can't.

 EDIT:
 Microsoft/Bing:
Stop smoking wherever you want, smoke where you haven't yet.Last edited by VoodooFX; 15th Sep 2022 at 12:58.
