  1. I only have the M2TS files and not the disc. How do I decrypt these files so it can be played and converted to MP4.

  3. MakeMKV doesn't seem to support M2TS, it doesn't show them when I try to open files.

As far as I know, you can't decrypt a lone M2TS file. You need the original disc to obtain the keys needed for decrypting the video.

Yes, it MUST be still on the original disc.

  8. My BR disk drive was flaking out trying to process a full disk using DVDFab.
So I tried to copy only the key m2ts files.
    They were unreadable by DVDFab.

I figured it was because they were still encrypted.

I thought DVDFab would be able to handle a "stand alone" m2ts file.

Which, it didn't because DVDFab claimed the stand alone m2ts file was unreadable.

A search for "how to decrypt m2ts files" resulted in this discussion popping up.

Where the members hit the nail on the head re:

DVDFab, etc., need information from the original disk to process the files.

Yet, this still didn't resolve my overall problem to avoid processing "Entire disk" of files each and every time a disk/m2ts file processing task was needed only on one of the m2ts files on the disk.

I didn't mind processing the file, however, given the glitchy BR external disk, bogging out managing the entire disk at a time.

I wanted any and all processing to work from from the HD directly, for processing, decrypting, or anything.

My initial copy of the target m2ts file was done using windows explorer.

I would be willing to have the decryption software "ask" for the original disk for decrypting the current stand-alone m2ts file on my hard drive.

This not being the case, sounds like decryption software actually needs to work entirely from the original disk because it can't "jump around" to other locations - perhaps a restriction put on by the encryption developer as an additional means of encryption - not only a key, but all files need to be batched in a formal location and or structure - I also now get this as well.

I think a feature, along these lines, should be incorporated into DVDFab, or other to "ask" for source/location of original disk, should it find an M2ts file unreadable.

It could ask for the source disk location, while working with the m2ts file on my HD.

This would relieve the strain on a flaky BR disk player (old, slow, but still usable.)

Other solution, to pay $$$ for a current BR DVD player designed/engineered within current year and standards (USB-C, etc.) - Which I already did, and am waiting for via delivery,

I wanted to work on my (long time to do) decryption needs in the meanwhile while waiting for the new BR/DVD external drive, however, I've already had the older drive loose communication due to its old USB interface.

In conclusion, thanks for confirming that m2ts files (stand alone) need the original disk for decryption - or, in the alternative -

DVD/BR decryption software needs to work from the original disk to process them.
