  1. Hi
I have a DVD of tv series, the first few episodes played ok, but when i got to episode 5 it just shows a staic screen, if i try any other episode after 5 it displays the same static image. is this a VOB fault, because the VOB files i copied to my PC all do the same thing. any help would be appreciated, i want to burn another DVD as the original with all menus etc. Thanks

  3. I can play any episode on the dvd, up to episode 6, when I try to play any eoiside 6 or above I get the frozen image on the screen.
On my pc if I try to play any VOB file for episode 6 or above tge same thing happens. But I suspect it’s not the VOB files, as the same problem would happen to several. Not sure how to fix it. Thanks

Is this a commercial (pressed) DVD, or burned?
What does the surface of the disc look like in regards to scratches?
How did you rip the disc to your computer?

  5. If on disc, then the problem is the scratched disc

  7. I don't know what software "blind dvd" is.

First rip the DVD to your PC if you can.
You may be able to just copy & paste from the DVD.

DVDShrink can rip an already decrypted DVD.
Rip full size if your DVD is still DVD9.

    You can analyze with DVDShrink.
Do this even when DVDShrink tells you its not necessary.
Then rip to your hard drive with DVDShrink.
See if the VIDEO_TS folder will play from your media player.
If it will then burn those files to a DVD disk.

If not you could try FixVTS.
    Or DVDRebuilder.

If these don't work I will make a few other suggestions.

You can also open the VIDEO_TS folder in PgcEdit and see what errors it reports and let it fix them.

If PgcEdit doesn't show any error messages on it's own right after you select your VIDEO_TS folder, you may try FixVTS first.

  12. I ran FixVTS, it said it fixed a VOB file, but not sure if it’s actually a faulty VOB file as it gets stuck on all after no 5, can try the others anyway…..not sure what else to try

Dvd rebuilder ran for hours that gave an error message, FixFTS ran through VOB file no5, can run through the others but think it’s something else as all bobs stick at exactly the same place, think it’s a common video to all episodes…..any more ideas please

Sounds like something went wrong when the original (commercial) disk was copied to the HDD.

Get the original disk and try again from there. Test it thoroughly before burning a disk from it.

For a troubleshooting step, open the disk in Windows Explorer, click on video_ts in the left pane
set the right pane to details view, take screen shot and post it here

  20. I don’t now have the original disk, that’s why I really need to fix this one. Hopefully it’s possible.

As it’s dual layer. Wonder if I can use clone dvd to reduce it to a dvd5 then it will have to re encode it, just a thought.

Best thing to do is buy the disc you need,I doubt you can fix the error due to lack of data on the disc.

  22. Wish I could, but it’s no longer available, I might manage Region 1 but then would have to copy it.

What do you mean not enough data ? Is that why it only played up to a certain episode ?

Means that there's no dvd data that got recorded and just bad or no data,it's like opening a text file and deleting all the words and then saving it.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  24. Well I MagSafe to play half of the episodes, but then any eoiside after that gets stuck with a frozen image, same on all. Only available from Germany and Denmark, menus are foreign, so will just wait and see if Disney release it again, it’s the Jim Henderson dinosaurs, uk release was on 4 dual layer dvds

    Thanks for your help

  25. IsoPuzzle might rip this DVD.
It is supposed to rip everything on a DVD but the copy protections.
It has to be done with a decrypter enabled like AnyDVD .
All you need is AnyDVD on.
IIf your DVD is not encrypted you won't need a decrypter.
IsoPuzzle can take a very long time to complete.
    It may never complete.
It's good point is it can be used on several optical drives & even different computers to rip a DVD.
It will usually have some artifacts because it will rip the "damaged data" also.

For myself once it completes I usually can mount the .iso in a virtual drive.
    Sometimes it won't mount.
Then you can try playing the .iso with VLC or burning it with ImgBurn.
With a damaged DVD you never know.
I believe IsoPuzzle is your last shot.

    That is correct.
However the image you posted shows VTS_01_6.VOB 1,048,404 KB which is standard.
I checked a .DVD vob on my HDD it was 1,048,574 KB but close to the same size.
The differences are probably ripper settings.

This is my suggestion for trying to fix the one .vob.
Copy it to a work folder
Keep a copy of the original separate:that way you can go back if you need to.
Then use ffmpeg on the VTS_01_6.VOB.

    Use a code like this:
    Matched to your computer locations.
    Code:
    ffmpeg -i C:\Users\User\Desktop\TEMP\VTS_06_1.VOB -c:v mpeg2video -qscale:v 2 -c:a ac3 -b:a 448k -ac 6 -c:s copy C:\Users\User\Desktop\TEMP\VTS_06_1_2.VOB
Or like this but matching your .vob as MediInfo reports.
    EXAMPLE:
    Code:
    ffmpeg -i C:\Users\User\Desktop\TEMP\VTS_06_1.VOB -c:v mpeg2video -r 24000/1001 -b:v 4479k -maxrate 9800k -minrate 4000k -bufsize 2000k -c:a ac3 -b:a 448k -ac 6 -c:s copy C:\Users\User\Desktop\TEMP\VTS_06_1_2.VOB
Then try playing VTS_06_1.VOB by itself.
If it plays paste it back into the DVD Folder to replace the corrupted .vob.

This is my last fix. I'm out of ideas.
If this doesn't work someone else will have to come up with a solution.

  28. Wow thanks so much, it’s not just one VOB, if I play any VOB 5 onwards it shows the same static image, that’s why I thought it was whatever manages playback ( I know nothing about dvd structure or how it works) but not actually the VOBs. VOB 5 plays up to the part where the other later VIBs 6 etc, stick.
I can still try, but it seems to be something different that I don’t understand
    Thanks

  29. Let me backtrack a bit.
Have you tried playng just a single .vob like VTS_06_1.VOB by itself in VLC ?
