  1. I have an old (30 years) Sony Handycam that I am transferring videos from.
    It's my mom's camera.

There is a video out (yellow) and an audio out.

When I record the output to a DVD, the audio, is barely there, scratchy and very weak if audible at all.

I'm trying to figure out if this was because:

    a) the built-in mic sucks
    b) the tape has faded all these years
    c) the audio out needs a different cord

Is the audio out mono or stereo?
I am using stereo RCA cables and plug just one of the stereo cables into the audio out.
Is that the problem or a) or b) ?
    Any suggestions?
This is happening with all the cassettes.

Seek out a user manual for the camcorder or tell us the model no.

On my Sony camcorder there is only one A/V output and the cable sends both video and stereo audio.

Also when you say "Output to a dvd" do you mean via a dvd-recorder or by some other means. And are there any audio recording options ?

Yeah, without knowing the model number there is no way to know if it's a mono or a stereo model, But most parents back in the day were cheap skates and buy cheap camcorders on sale so I bet it's a mono model, in that case you would need a mono cable to stereo red and white or a RCA splitter that takes mono and output to two mono channels red and white.

That's totally unnecessary. Stop judging people. I suggest you offer technical advice or keep quiet.
