Is a player available which will play ProRes 50p? Windows Media Player doesn't seem to play ProRes at all, and while VLC media player does play ProRes 25p it doesn't seem to play ProRes 50p.

A sample on my PC plays, but it struggling in VLC - this is due to the specs
of my old PC, CPU too slow.

Try mpc-hc or mpc-be as an alternative

A fast (recent) PC will give better results

mpc-hc works perfectly, though mpc-be doesn't play it at all.. Thank you very much. Also mpc-hc plays ProRes 25p much better than VLC player does.

Did you "install" mpc-hc, or are you using the portable version?

    This is another way:
Right click the app icon/run as administrator
view/options/formats - choose the file types you want to activate/ apply

in view/options/formats i selected everything in the list because I didn't know what not to select, but it still won't play.

    I installed MPC-HC in C/Program Files.

Selecting "all" not recommended, just choose the types you're concerned about.

One last thing to try - go back to
    windows 10 Settings/Apps/Default Apps

At the bottom select "choose default apps by file type"

Check that the video file extensions are what you expect.
Reboot and retry opening one of the files.
