  1. Yesterday I setup a Fire TV Stick 4K steaming device on my TV. I use Mezzmo on a Mini PC to stream from. I installed the Mezzmo app on the Firestick so I could watch the content from the Mini PC to my TV. I didn't like the built-in viewer because the aspect ratio was wrong. The videos are 4:3 and the Mezzmo player stretches them. I decided to install VLC on the Firestick and use it in the Mezzmo app. It works great except I can't get it to play all of the files in the folder. At the end of the video, I have to select the next video and hit play. Does anyone know how I can get all of the files to play back-to-back with this setup?

  2. I found the solution and it was right in front of my eyes. I don't need to run Mezzmo on the Firestick. I ran the VLC app and I found that all of my video folders were listed. Now I can play all of the videos in the folder just like I can on my computer.

  3. While VLC (network/dlna stream) isn't a bad choice for some files but if your library is growing then it's better to try media solutions like Emby/Jellyfin or Plex. Those softwares are installed on your PC and have dedicated players on all other devices (in your case Firestick).
DLNA isn't robust these days (which Mezzmo offers) and if you need flexibility you can try above softwares. Jellyfin is highly recommended if you need complete free alternative and Emby/Plex for freemium solutions.

I took a quick look at Plex. I don't want to access any of my content over the internet. I just want to use devices that are connected to my home network. I have Mezzmo running on my Mini-PC and installed the Mezzmo app on my Firestick. Using the default Mezzmo player works OK except the aspect ratio is not 4:3. If I use the VCL player in Mezzmo the aspect ratio is correct, but I can't get it to play all of the files in the folder. I thought that just using VLC to play the files was the answer. By binge watching I found that VLC tend to freeze.

If I'm only going to use it to stream from my computer to the Firestick connected to the TV, why does the how-to say I need to setup an account?

Yes, Plex will require internet for setup as well as streaming. Though once setup is done, you can make it run offline so that it doesn't use internet for local streaming. I listed it because most clients are free besides mobile apps and it's most popular media server.
You can try Emby or Jellyfin, which doesn't require internet and will work offline out of the box. Emby clients aren't free but offers robust player while Jellyfin is complete free project (actually it's a fork of Emby's old codebase).

So just install Jellyfin server on your PC and then install Jellyfin client on Firestick > Connect and enjoy all the files locally.

  8. I want to thank you for your help and suggestions. I decided to take a chance and try the Fire TV Cube. I have tried it with Mezzmo, VLC and MX Player. The Cube seems to be working just as good as the Roku Box it replaced. The reason I decided to go with a Fire TV device is so that we can access the Blink Security Cameras on our main TV. Now all we have to do is say. Alexa, show camera, followed by the name of the camera.
