  1. I have a problem converting a 2CD divx movie to 2 svcds since when trying to encode one cd it says that the avi is more than 140 mins long (while it is 40 mins in fact) and so I cannot encode... any1 knows how to solve this ??

don't know, it's DivX allright. Don't know which version, but most groups still use DivX3.11. ... I've got DivX4or5 installed.
Maybe i must use the 3.11-codec..??

have you tried to increase the directshow reader priority and then open the divx?

  8. i know tmpgenc does not work properly with some avi's due to the codec or lack of, directshow filters are a no go, i guess

two symptoms often show up: 1. audio is missing 2. result is much too long

there's no way around it, afaik, but perhaps someone found a solution?

what i use these days (when things go wrong) is export the audio, and set start and end point in tmpgenc by hand

if you are converting from divx film to pal vcd, you have to mess around with the audio anyway

how about frameserving your file to TMPG with AVIsynth:
    avisource("c:\path\file.avi")
