  1. Hi guys,
I've been capturing DV to PC. Just wondering which would be the best approach for editing these captured files. Edit them while they're in AVI format (huge) or editing them once they're converted to MPEG?

    Thanks in advance ...

I'd say the best means for video editting is to get a Mac, but seriously I'd go for the uncompressed files. That way once you do decided to export and compress you can properly gauge the file size and options needed.

Editing mpeg is pretty messy, especially mpeg2. Ifyou have the hard drive space keep it uncompressed.

Plus from what I've learned from the Mac side is once the Audio is compressed in with the mpeg, editing is a real pain; however in the uncompressed stage changes can easily be made and you don't run the chances of double compressing and losing quality.

  5. Thanks guys for you replies. Yep, that's what I've thought too. I found that there are abundant of free AVI editors around but hardly found any good free MPEG editors around.
