  1. Trying to use AmarecTV instead of OBS. When I try to open an AmarecTV video with MPC, it says something about the "pins" in the "graph". I installed the AMV video codec.

Investigate the video/audio properties by opening the file in mediainfo. Put it in text view to see the details and post the info here
    if you need further assiatance

video codec=AMV4. This is Amarec's prorietary codec which they charge for.
Switch to a common codec such as Lagarith, HuffyUV or UT Codec

Lagarith @ 4.2.2 chroma, seems good. Does your device deinterlace on the fly?

Are you able to select 29.97 as the frame rate? THis would be more accurate for VHS.

Yes I think my Startech S-Video/Composite to HDMI Converter automatically deinterlaces. https://www.startech.com/en-us/audio-video-products/vid2hdcon2

I'm using the Startech with https://www.avermedia.com/us/product-detail/BU110

I set Amarec to 29.97, but mediainfo still says 30.00.

  8. Yes, that video has been deinterlaced somewhere along the line. Along with the deinterlacing artifacts it has a duplicate frame every 5th frame.

Open it in virtualdub2, find a place with movement, and use the right arrow key to advance it frame by frame. You'll soon see it

Ok I see the duplication every 5 frames. But how can you tell it's been deinterlaced?

<snip> You can easily run decimate and re-encode it back to 24

With VirtualDub you would see combing during motion. Something like this:

boolian2, remove any sharpening in the player or in the capture card, to avoid the halos:

when you'll have your new GV-USB card, capture 4:2:2, losslees, interlaced; you will deinterlace later in postprocessing if needed

  15. I find I get more repeatable results by setting up a preset in AmarecTV and using that rather than making changes in the Config section. (Hauppauge USB Live2, Win10 Home)

  16. @boolian2: Didn't you already capture this clip correctly as 29.97 telecined in your other thread, using AmarecTV? Just IVTC it.
    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/406142-I-o-DATA-GV-USB2-default-settings-sample
This source should be IVTCed rather than deinterlaced because there is nothing to be deinterlaced. Just field match and decimate.
    Maybe I am missing something ... ?
