By the way, what do use for authoring? iMovie etc.?
You're probably right -- but I think its OS X's support (or lack) for my drive. It's available as an option in OS 9 and DVDSP v. 1.2.

    I'm still using OS X v. 10.1.3. I may upgrade to 10.1.5 this weekend.

I author the discs with DVDSP then burn the AUDIO_TS/VIDEO_TS folders using Toast Titanium.
Oops. I meant to ask what you used to edit the movies.

As you know, before using DVDSP to author the DVD you still often need somehow to prepare the files whether it be with Final Cut Pro, iMovie, or just QuickTime without other video editing software. Final Cut Pro (or Premiere) is way more than I need, and iMovie keeps crashing on me, esp. when I import JPEGs.

iBook with 640 MB RAM with OS X.1.5.

I rip DVDs (I havent made an original DV movie yet) using DVDExtractor or YADE. I convert to Quicktime using MacMPEG2Convertor. I make menu screens in PowerPoint X.

I usually don't edit the content ... When I go through converting a DVD, I'm usually trying to cram two movies onto one DVD-R. I mostly just rip and re-author.

OK. I'm doing stuff with .avi files and quicktime movies, and probably eventually will be doing some stuff from MiniDV. I don't rip movies much.

Anybody else have comments on the stability of iMovie? I can use it, but I have to make sure I save every few minutes or before I load files because it's so unstable on my machine.

BTW bad news, you cannot run mac apps with Virtual PC for the PC, only other PC OSes. Too bad, I'm building an Athlon XP 2200 in a few weeks and even with virtual PC loaded I bet it would run circles around my old iMac... oh well guess I'll have to wait till I can afford up upgrade my mac also.

Oh yes, and as long as you on a good G4 or faster MacOSX is devine.
