    as simple as possible. I am not doing youtube stuff. but I need to cut a long video into clips for better storage on my mobile phone, but I want to do it with my desktop PC and then send the clips to my mobile devices

    probably only splitting long video into clips are good enough for my purpose

    I'm not sure if it's simple...but I've used Shotcut (https://shotcut.org/) before. It's open source and has some good features.

    Can't get any easier than the video editing software supplied free with win 10. Have you tried that?

    I'd suggest Lossless Cut ( https://mifi.github.io/lossless-cut/ )for what you want to do
