Could the automated parser that looks for(that was a : followed by a capital D )and the like be tweaked to spot it is appropriate only if there is leading whitespace?
Trying to post <TL : DR> without spaces foists an unwanted smiley on the poor reader.

Ok. But do explain what <TL : DR> is meant to mean. Forums rarely interpret html tags unless they are specifically provided for.
-
you can write such word inside code bbcode. bbcode disable all kind of smiley.

TL, DR is a common expression on web forums, it means "too long, didn't read". Just dont't use the colon. Easy.
-
I've always taken tl:dr to mean too long didn't read. And that sums up much web usage, if one takes a cynical standpoint.
But please do not take one example of pseudo-markup language and claim an exception; this happens with colons all over this site. I usually need to remove at least one in any long comments I may make. -
SEMI-O.T.: While all computers in the world aren't allowed to get rid of the limitations from the 7-bit Era,
we already can replace most emoticons or smileys with an emoji.
😁
P.S.: Probably this thread should be moved to the "Feedback" section...
P.P.S.: This forumware still has a problem with emojis when one edits a post. :—/Last edited by El Heggunte; 5th May 2022 at 12:16. Reason: clarity

Moving to feedback.
This is a very very very very very very very old vbulletin version. I don't think I will update it. But I can try fix it myself. In 0-10 years. -

Then shouldn't you tell 'them'?
