I have used Staxrip on a Couple of HD encodes.
I encoded a 1hr file from a bluray rip using X265 on default settings, only changing the following:
CRF 16 This took just over five hours (I am now testing 18, which is estimating around about the same encode time)
AQ 3 - Auto Variance with Bias to Dark Scenes
CRF 18
Slow Preset
All other settings unchanged.
No filters Used.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Is there a question there somewhere?
Taking 5hrs for 1hr full hd to H.265 using x265 with preset 'slow' might be even fast depending on the cpu used.users currently on my ignore list: deadrats, Stears555 -
Hevc at the "very slow" preset *is* slow. Try changing the preset to "fast" and the quality to CRF 20 - 22.
Is it a typical movie, ie. 1080p, approx 2 hours? -

Did a quit test on my Ryzen 9 3850X using:
Code:x265 --preset slow --input - --output-depth 10 --y4m --profile main10 --crf 18.00 --range limited --colormatrix bt709 --output "E:\Temp\8.Birds_1080p24fpsRef4-112Mbps.265"

ON my ancient AMD FX4300, I get 1.8 fps, 1080p source, 8-bit hevc @ preset slow.
If I change it to fast, I get 6.5 fps. I'm pretty sure "fast" is the sweet spot for CPU encodes
Otherwise get a GPU and use the HW acceleration
