I have been a user of AvsPmod for several years. I recently updated from version 2.6.8.7 to 2.7.1.0 and noticed that the preview behavior has changed.

Now (2.7.1.0), when you edit a script and switch to preview then the Windows, both script and preview, go blank before the script is restored and the image updated.
Then (2.6.8.7), when you edit a script and switch to preview the windows are retained and the image in preview gets updated. There is no interruption by a blank screen.

With 2.6.8.7:- you can easily see a subtle change, such as adding a sharpening filter, the image changes while you are viewing it.
With 2.7.1.0:- the change is via a blank window and then a new image is shown. The intervening blank screen makes it difficult to notice if the image change is for better or worse.

Tracking and testing through the versions, I found that the change in behavior first occurs in version 2.6.9.2. The last "OK" version is 2.6.9.1.
    I have "updated" to 2.6.9.1.
Has anyone else noticed the change in behavior and devised a workaround?

I do not experience this, and I'm not entirely clear on your description of "go blank"... or "blank window"

What version of avs+ are you using ?

    Thanks for the reply.

Please note that avsPmod version 2.6.9.2 and avsPmod version 2.6.9.1 are both driving the same copy of avisynth.dll

    Behaviour of avsPmod 2.6.9.1.
After making a small edit to the script in the upper pane and then moving-clicking the mouse curser into the lower pane:-
An updated image appears in the lower pane.

    Behaviour of avsPmod 2.6.9.2.
After making a small edit to the script in the upper pane and then moving-clicking the curser into the lower pane:-
The script text dissappears from the upper pane and the pane is white (blank).
The existing image dissappears from the lower pane and the pane is white(blank).
A moment later (~0.5 sec) the script reappears in the upper pane and an updated image appears in the lower pane.

The report obtained from AVSInfoTool.exe is copied below
    [Avisynth info]
    VersionString: AviSynth+ 3.7.0 (r3382, 3.7, i386)
    VersionNumber: 2.60
    File / Product version: 3.7.0.0 / 3.7.0.0
    Interface Version: 8
    Multi-threading support: Yes
    Avisynth.dll location: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\avisynth.dll
    Avisynth.dll time stamp: 2021-01-11, 16:46:40 (UTC)

    Thanks for clarification,

I cannot reproduce the issue when using newer versions of avs+ and old avspmod vs. new avspmod . Basically one difference is I'm using a newer .dll than you

Try updating avs+ , there were some recent "hanging" bugs related to avspmod that might be related.

Newer avspmod versions need updated avs+ versions, there were some incompatibility issues when frame properties were introduced

Problem behavior "blank screen" has been cured.

As suggested, AVS+ has been updated from 3.7.0.0 to 3.7.2.2.
During the update, the installer auto-added "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x86)" to the system.
The system already has the 64bit equivalent installed.

Not sure which of the updates solved the "blank screen" problem since AvsPmod 2.7.1.0 ran before the update but exhibited the "blank screen" fault described above.

A last observation, during testing I noticed that the rendering speed is significantly faster (+50%) in AvsPmod versions 2.6.9.2 onward than in the earlier 2.6.9.1 version. I used AVSmeter and found that the background CLI rendering rate (fps) of avisynth was similar to that reported by AvsPmod version 2.6.9.2.
The testing was made before the update of AVS+ and of visual C++ Redistributable.

Many thanks to poisondeathray for assistance in solving the problem.
