you can also check ' sync data transfer',if you can get into your BIOS try to see it sets to auto or off(it should be set to auto). What is your system(please detail) ?
-
My system details are
Pentium 3 500Mhz, 512 Megs of PC100 RAM, 16X DVD ROM,
RICHO 6X CD BURNER, GIGABYTE BXDU Moterboard,High Point UDMA 100 Hard drive controler with a 40Gb Mator UDMA 100 hard drive, ATI Rage128 32meg and a Sound blaster live. anything else ya need to know ? -
I think Ive sussed your problem... You only have one propeller on your moterboard !!!..........
Seriously try using DVD Decrypter ! -
Have you tried my suggestions ? If the thing is still the same try to run only one app at the time, use Ctrl+Alt+Del to close not needed running background , defrag hard dive often. Did you check BIOS to see your DVD drive is set to AUTO or OFF (should be AUTO),this can make a big different.Let me know how it's going .

I have a pioneer 16x DVDROM and the same thing happened to me, could only rip at ~2x. After trying all the fixes, i.e. enable/disabled DMA, mess with the sync data transfer and so on, I finally found the answer ... reinstall windows. After I did that, I rip at 5x-10x.

I doint really wanna go down the route of reinstalling windows for the 5th time everything else is working great it only crashes about once every 4 months so i would rather try to fix the problem if not them maybe ill buy another drive and start over and just use that for ripping etc.
thanks thou -
Did you try using different dvds? That may be the problem. Your may be dirty. Also, let it go for awhile. It starts to speed up.

I have a Delta 12x DVD-ROM, when I was running win98 it ripped at 0.7x-1x (smartripper) if I turned on DMA the computer would lock up/refuse to start.
I upgraded to winME and was able to turn on DMA and now rip at 4-8x. Also installed the newest VIA 4in1 drivers for my MB/chipset. -
I am running win2k/98 dual boot.
I own 12x Samsung and I use to rip at max 2x. After reinstalling both OS, now I am able to rip at max 1.4x.
I have tried UDMA, BIOS, IDE Driver upgrade but no luck! -
I also am useing windows ME and it used to rip @ 7x back on SE but i cant take the crashing that go's with 98se. As for the DVDs being dirty they aint there all very clean it even rips slow with a brand new DVD ?
-
Ok i solved it. My puter blew up over the weekend so i had to buy a new motherboard and CPU i got an athlon 1Ghz and now it rips @ upto 9x yayyyyyyy
