  1. I have been using an extension "Autoplaystopper" on Firefox and Chrome-based browsers for a long time. It is/was the best addon to block video/audio auto-play online, but recently I've noticed some websites, where it doesn't work anymore. Actually original Firefox addon was removed from AMO a few years ago, but there is still a fork called "Halt VideoAutoplay" (in addon tab in Firefox it comes up as "AutoplayStopper"):
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/halt-videoautoplay/
but it wasn't updated for a good while. Last version is 1.7.3 (2019.09.08) . The Chrome one is fairly up-to-date (1.7.5 - 2022.02.26):

I am not good at serious IT stuff and don't have accounts at many IT websites, but I tried to contact yochaim and RandPC to no avail. Yochaim still creates .xpi files for Firefox, but they are not signed, so you can't install them. You can find them here:
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&p=14841642
    under (newversions.zip). The direct link:
    https://yochaym.bitbucket.io/flashtest/newversions.zip

You can check if there's a new version of the file using Firefox addon "Link Properties Plus WE":
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/link-properties-plus/

So maybe somebody here could create a fork for Firefox based on the yochaim's xpi file, or recommend comparable extension

  2. That guide is a bit outdated. Firefox can now natively block (or not) the playing of audio and/or video. Now labeled Autoplay and found in the Permissions section of the Privacy & Securty tab.

  4. Thanks for reminding me about the native blocking (or not) of the audio and/or video playing in Firefox. I had it turned off for a long time, because it wasn't as good as the AutoplayStopper addon. I tried it on (with the addon off) and it seems better, but still not so smart as the addon. I mean the same way Ublock Origin is much "smarter" and much more configurable than the Firefox native adblock. I'll keep both turned on, still hoping for some dev updating AutoplayStopper or creating better addon, or Firefox improving their native autoplay blocker.
