  1. Hello all,
I am trying to burn a .iso file for an elderly friend with no computer just a DVD player to verbatim DVD-R discs without success. ImageBurn gets to within 80-90% and then gives write errors:
10:54:05 Failed to Write Sectors 2113920 - 2113951 - Reason: Unknown (Internal Target Failure) (ASC: 0x44, ASCQ: 0xA9)

This keeps happening on two different DVD burners, one in my laptop and one external drive.
The internal drive is a Slimtype Prod_DVD_A__DA8AESH and the external drive is a Pioneer BD/DVD/CD burner.
My computer is an Acer Aspire E5-575G with an Intel Core i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.40 GHz 8GB RAM.
    Edition Windows 10 Home
    Version 21H1
    Installed on ‎10/‎17/‎2020
    OS build 19043.1526

The fact that it happens in two different burners makes me think it is the discs, but they are only 5 years old which many sources say should still be fine.
I've ordered a small, new package of the same discs to try.
In the meantime, any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks.

Yes. Always write at half the rated speed of the blank media.

Verbatim are one of the better brands out there and I do not recall ever getting a write error when using them.

Those sector numbers you quote are nearer 97% of capacity for single-layer AFAIK than 80 - 90%. Are you sure that your ISO can fit on a disk. Possible that if you are writing to a dual-layer (pls confirm) that there is a layer break issue.

  8. [QUOTEhow big is your iso file ??[/QUOTE]

    4.17 GB

I'm using DVDFab which indicates an ordinary writable DVD is large enough.

    Log file attached also.

    Thanks again.

dvdfab shrinks the file to fit on the disc

Are the discs Verbatim AZO? Only those with the AZO logo are quality.

CMC is still making AZO discs using the original specs, https://www.amazon.com/s?k=verbatim&ref=nb_sb_noss. They also have non-AZO discs deceptively in identical packaging as pointed out i my post above. AFAIK, they still make Taiyo Yuden discs to the original specs also.

Mount an image of the ISO and see if you can play it?
    OR
Open the ISO in DVDShrink and see if you can preview it/see if it open it.

I can view it with VLC.

You could also help yourself by answering ALL the questions.

For now, provide a link for the blank media you are using or intend to use.

Looking at the brand is not enough. See where the discs were manufactured ("Made in ...").
Online sellers usually won't name this detail, you would have to hold the spindle in your own hands to find it.

Verbatim made in Taiwan = CMC, great quality
Verbatim made in India = Moser Baer, usually good quality but tends to vary with batches
Verbatim made in UAE = great quality but rare
Verbatim made in China = mediocre at best

Get a full size drive with a Mediatek or Renesas chipset (LG, Lite-On), not hard to find.

Maybe you should start a new thread on this topic? In the meantime, think about what features you want and what you plan to use your new laptop to do.

Before Christmas, I bought an HP Pavilion with a 15.6" display, an Intel® Core™ i5-1155G7 processor, and Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics to replace a 9-year-old HP Pavilion with an AMD APU. It is a pleasure to use. It is fast, very quiet and doesn't get hot like the old laptop. However, unlike my old laptop, it doesn't have an internal DVD drive (too slim), and it isn't easy to get inside the shell to replace the battery or the NVMe drive or upgrade the RAM. The RAM might not even be removable. So, my advice is to get a laptop with a little more RAM and more storage than you think you need if you plan to keep it for a long time.

  19. My apologies. I didn't mean to ignore anyone. I mistakenly used an email address I don't check very often. I have changed it.
The Verbatim discs are AZO which I believe is still of good quality.
Thanks for the suggestion on a laptop. I will pass it on to my father.
I will check the ImgBurn forum also.

If he wants to know exactly what model I bought, this is it: https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-pavilion-laptop-15t-eg100-touch-optional-43f54av-1

I bought directly from HP so I could customize my system. The i5 processor I bought is not available anymore but the i7 that is now standard was an upgrade from the base configuration at the time and the processor Iris Xe graphics are the same.
