    1. Are there any differences between the ATI AIW Radeon 7500 and the Hercules AIW Radeon 7500?

    2. My spec is: P3 750 Mhz, 384 SDRAM, 5400 rpm 20Gig HD, Nvidia TNT2.....what sort of captures could I expect to get with either of these cards? What would the maximum resolution be?

    3. Would a dedicated 7200rpm HD be advisable?

    Thanks to everyone who replies!

  2. I have a hercules 7500, as far as I know there is no difference. I can capture 704x576 25fps with no frame drops.

    Thanks Craig!

Do you think my system could capture at DVD res with this card?

  4. I don't see why not although a secondary 7200rpm dedicated capture drive would be a good investment. If you're capturing to AVI you'll soon eat up whatever space you've got left on that 20 gig drive.

  6. kazzer>>I just bought the same card and am experimenting with VCD production from VHS. Please let me know if you find any settings which work particularly well with your setup. My computer ironically appears to be identical to yours except for processor brand name so I would greatly appreciate any assistance. I'm currently in the process of testing out several different capture settings and comparing them using my side by side P.I.P. and will post here and in 'what kind of frame rate can I expect' as to my results.

    Eyepop,

Just like you I am trying to find out as much as I can. This site is fantastic, and there is something new to learn each time you visit the forums.

I am trying to decide on which setup to use - realtime software cards (All-In-Wonder), hardware mpeg 2 cards, USB, DV to analog conversion, etc. I still haven't made up my mind! I like the idea of the All-in-wonder because its a great graphics card also, and I am looking to replace my TNT2. I did try PCI card called AVerTV (€70), and it was very bad. This card uses realtime (software) mpeg encoding, and the VCD captures were very bad. My system had great problems capturing mpeg 2, and the results were 'stuttery'. Because of this I am wary of realtime software encoders, but I hope you do well with the All-in-wonder 7500.

If you think its good, please tell me, and if I discover and good techniques using the spec we both have I'll let you know. Good Luck!
