In another post of me I got some tips about de-interlacing.

For instance : Handbrake -> Yadif with preset Bob

Now I do some tests with Handbrake with the Preview options.
The loaded file is AVI, Interlaced.
When I set all filters at Off, I expect to get a preview file also Interlaced.
    But MediaInfo displays Progressive.
Is this a bug in Handbrake or misunderstanding by me?

The file is captured from a mini DV tape and the parts taken inside the house are noisy.

Is the source flagged as interlaced?
    Use mediainfo to find out

  3. Handbrake doesn't support interlaced encoding. Even if you set the output video codec to encode interlaced the video will usually be screwed up by Handbrake before it gets to the encoder.

Yes, my input file is interlaced, so I was surprised to see that with the De-interlace options OFF Handbrake still procudes a de-interlaced (Progressive) file.
But I understand from jagabo, that this is a bug in Handbrake.

Now I am capturing mini DV tapes of my son.

The first one, Interlaced, has according to MediaInfo : Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 2.357
I think, the best way is cutting it in scenes remaining the output also Interlaced.
But the programs I have tested produce Progressive files, I can only choose MP4, AVI, etc.

  5. If you want simple cut editing of DV AVI use VirtualDub. Set Video -> Direct Stream Copy. Mark-in, mark-out, File -> Save As AVI... Repeat for each segment you want to save. There will be no change in quality or size.

AviDemux can do this too. Leave Audio and Video set to Copy. Set Output Format to AVI.
