Despite the propaganda, in reality the Y2K bug was actually nothing at all to worry about and could be fixed almost effortlessly. The problem arose due to the fact that most/all computer systems and databases used 2 digits to record the current year, i.e: 89 for 1989 and 90 for 1990. What that meant was, when the year 2000 approached, the date format which was used by computer systems would revert back to 00, which would cause problems.
But any programmer capable of writing a script could fix this problem in seconds. The hysteria created by news outlets of this 'disastrous millenium bug' was quite ridiculous.
