  1. I used "Sefy's Ultimate Newbie DVD Conversion Guide v1.9" on this site to Convert a DVD to VCD.

Used SmartRipper v2.41 to Rip DVD to VOB
And DVD2AVI v1.76 to convert the VOB to an AVI/D2V

When Saving the AVI in DVD2AVI it shows on the status its saving as 20fps. Surely Australian PAl DVD's aren't 20fps (I realise there interlaced and VCD's aren't) and therefore when converting to MPEG-1 in TMPGEnc its converting 20fps to 25fps which is then the cause of my jerky movie.

Someone help, I cannot see any option in either SmartRipper or DVD2AVI which could be degrading my framerate.

I've had this problem too with DVD2AVI, but only with the version of DVD2AVI 1.76 that came with GordianKnot package. If I open the same vobs with the DVD2AVI 1.76 that come with DVD2SVCD package, it shows 25 fps correctly ... Don't know the real reason for this, but try downloading a different version of DVD2AVI somewhere and try if it helps.

  3. Try downloading DVD2AVI from the links in the guide, also check the v2.0 of the guide, it has some new links in it and is alot more detailed then before.
Lastly, check if you accidently turned on Force Film feature, you can't use it with PAL movies.

  4. Indeed, you don't need to use it. PAL is so much easier to deal with...
