  1. Through posts on here I realized that my sync issues were due to the Camera settings from 2001 (12 bit audio, LP mode). What I am at a loss over is how can I capture this footage the simplest way without the Video Audio sync issue?

I had been using iMovie 10.3.1 - seems fine enough for the tapes with 16bit audio. From reading other threads here I know that a Mac is not ideal for capturing and I plan to get a PC in the not too distant future but need to capture about 60min worth of video from a 20year old documentary project within the next couple of weeks for a separate documentary project and am looking for a way in which to do that. The export will be for a 2022 project will potentially be used in a project that will air on a local PBS station.

    My setup -

My full setup: MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018); Processor: 1.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, RAM: 16 GB 2133 MHz, Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 617 1536 MB, Running on macOS Monterey, 500gb HD.

*Older MacBook: Macbook 4, 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2gb ram, with 250gb HD running on Mac OS X. (its got 2 firewire 800 ports, 2 USB and even a dvd drive).

DECK: Canon zr700. My immediate hurdle is the tape recorded with 12 bit audio and under the "LP" setting."

Any advice on how to capture this tricky tape the most painless way would be greatly appreciated.

    Many many thanks!

  2. I think I figured it out - I went back through the archives to a post circa 2011 I think - long story short: I was able to import the 12bit audio tape via an old version of Quicktime (circa 2010) - on my older MacBook. The quality seems 1:1 - and there is no audio. video sync! So glad I kept the old computer - I will be able to breeze through my other tapes on this setup!
