  1. This thread isn't a question, but rather a discussion.

One thing that always bugged me with Netflix is their inability to work with standard definition sources.

One of the first examples that comes to my mind is Netflix's stream of anime Toradora. Looking at the video stats, it seems like just a normal 23.9xx video, sourced from dvd, with the detelecining filter applied on. After watching like the first 5 minutes, it turns out that "detelecine" isn't the only filter being applied on. Every few minutes or so, the video resolution drops in half and video gets all jagged for like 0.5 seconds and then regains back the resolution. At certain points the jaggedness lasts nearly 2 seconds, occasionally showing frame lending artefacts.

I've also seen a few other SD shows which also suffer from incorrect deinterlacing. I can list at least two UK television shows recorded in 576i25 but deinterlaced to 576p30 for some reason.

I hope I am not the only one annoyed

I moaned about it 8 years ago and I don't think it's gotten any better: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/361575-Will-digital-distribution-ever-figure-out-p...D-presentation
