How do I go about identifying whether I am able to transcode a piece of footage for Davinci resolve, or whether it needs to be re-encoded.

I have two very similar pieces of media with very similar Media info Logs... yet, resolve only accepts one.

    https://docdro.id/bfmqFON = read-able by resolve

https://docdro.id/5o0WTys = won't import, or show in media browser.

can anyone tell me why, or point me in the right direction.

    ______
Media won't import to adobe media encoder either.

    NLE: Resolve studio 17.3

    Klite mega pack installed

What does "transcode" mean for you, if not re-encode? Where is the difference for you?

In times of MPEG-2 video (DVD Video media), it was possible for some tools to do a "compressed domain transcode", means, the video did not need to be decoded completely before compressing it again. But since MPEG-4, video streams got too complex, especially with MPEG-4 AVC (H.264), and even more HEVC (H.265) and beyond. Motion vector based predicted frames became more and more important, and they don't work well anymore when a reference frame changes substantially.

I will not help you much with your apparently pirated movies. But I guess that importing DTS-HD audio is one of the lesser supported features of publicly available video editing software.
