Resizing videos using VirtualDub

Hello,

For a neuroimaging study, I am designing an experiment in which subjects will be presented with video clips from a TV show.

The videos that I am using vary in dimensions/ total pixels. See the plots for an idea. Because the difference in total pixels is substantial, I am looking for a way to resize the videos, so that the amount of pixels is more equal.

So far I have tried resizing using VirtualDub, but so far I have not achieved good results. Either videos end up corrupt (completely black), or I get errors during processing. I am also unsure how resizing will affect quality, and what would be the best method to maintain good quality.

Can anyone recommend me a convenient way to resize the videos?

Use clever ffmpeg-GUI.
Load the file you want resize, click main, click convert video stream, choose resize (upper left), click continue, insert in the width and height fields the desired values, leave all other settings as they are, click convert. Done.
